About Dr. Marie-Teresa Colbert
Why did you become a doctor?
I have always been very inquisitive and had a love of the sciences. I first realized that I wanted to be a physician in high school after taking anatomy and AP biology classes. This dream became a possibility when a college professor encouraged me to pursue a career in medicine. I definitely came out of my shell in college and realized that I loved interacting with people and wanted to combine this with my love of science.
What do you like about providing care to teens/kids?
I love that adolescents and kids are very honest and often wise beyond their years, especially when you take the time to get to know them and encourage them to be active participants in their health.
What is the best part of your job?
I get to meet new people and learn from my patients everyday. I love working with patients to fully understand their health concerns and take a team approach with the patient to figure out how to best manage them.
What is your favorite?
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lack by Rebecca Skloot, and One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
It's a close tie between Fried Green Tomatoes and Steel Magnolias
Doo Wop (That Thing) by Lauren Hill
What's your favorite part about living in Colorado?
I hope to learn how to ski "better" and go on some great hikes.
What is your favorite food that you make?
Cucumber and Tomato Salad & Red Beans and Rice
When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Depending on the day, a chef or an artist.
What was your favorite hobby when you were a kid, and now as an adult?
I loved to draw and paint as a kid. I always had a crayon in my hand.
As an adult, I enjoy hiking, golfing, cooking and especially traveling.
